British Scientists Develop Super Broccoli

Recently, British scientists unveiled a new generation of vegetable that is claimed to have nutrients in large enough quantities. These vegetables in the form of broccoli that was specifically developed with a content of glucoraphanin two to three times the normal amount. Glucoraphanin is a nutrient that can help prevent heart disease.

"Vegetables are a myriad of drug content," said Richard Mithen, who led a team of scientists at the Institute for Food Research in Norwich, England, who developed the new broccoli. "When you eat this broccoli. You can lower cholesterol in your bloodstream, "he told the Associated Press, Wednesday (26/10).

Glucoraphanin known works by breaking the fat in the body and prevent arterial clogging. The content of these nutrients are only found in broccoli in significant numbers.

To develop vegetables that are sold under the name "super broccoli," Mithen and colleagues mated broccoli seedlings traditional English with a variety of Sicilian wild flowers that have no heads, and large doses of glucoraphanin. After 14 years, this enhanced hybrid which eventually produced and patented.

Previously, super broccoli is already sold in stores Beneforte choices in California and Texas last year, and finally entered the UK market starting this month. Starting this fall, broccoli is also to be launched in the United States.
